ABSTRACT
This
paper demonstrates the results of the analysis of current
situation in prediction of reliability, durability, quality, and
maintainability; as well as results of development
methodology and equipment for accelerated reliability testing
which is a key factor in improving the current situation in the
above areas. The implementation of 10 basic new concepts of
this development decreases recalls, complaints, and total life-
cycle cost of the product by at least 33% to 47%. This paper
compares basic principles of new concepts with current ones.
Practical accelerated reliability assurance for complex mobile
systems and components based on multipurpose accelerated
reliability testing (ART) is presented and illustrated. ART
optimization and enhancement based on early reliability
physics, systemic failure analysis and customized applied
statistics covering various stages of R&D, manufacturing,
and field service is justified and detailed. It provides further
significant sustainable reliability growth associated with high
customer satisfaction and dramatic reduction of expenses.
Specific test and failure modes are substantiated covering
various stages of R&D, manufacturing, and service.
Recommendations are provided.
INTRODUCTION
There are many problems in engineering, that relate to
reliability, maintainability, durability, quality, serviceability,
etc., which remained unsolved until the present. One of the
basic reasons for this situation is that until now people had
not solved a fundamental) problem of accelerated reliability
(durability) testing.They did not take into account that accelerated reliability/
durability
testing (ART/ADT) is a key factor of accelerated
development and improvement of quality, reliability,
durability, maintainability, availability, and supportability
through its accurate prediction during design, manufacturing,
and usage.
This paper is intended to acquaint the reader with the some
aspects of the methodology and equipment needed to provide
accelerated reliability/durability testing technology with the
answer based on the question: HOW, which is very important
for practical engineers, managers, and researchers, as well as
teachers and graduate students. One can see this methodology
in more detail in author's books [ 23], [ 28], [ 31]
The
paper demonstrates that the strategy for the above
problems solution consists of the following interconnected
steps [ 28]:
• Accurate
simulation of the complete field situation, which
consists of three complexes: input influences, safety
problems, and human factors;
• Accelerated reliability/durability testing of the product/
process on the base the above simulation;
• Accurate prediction during given time (warranty period,
service life, etc.) of reliability interconnected with durability,
maintainability, quality, availability, and supportability. This
prediction one can do on the base of accelerated reliability/
durability testing results;
